Paul McCartney Requests My Song Requests (Well, not really but literally in my dream)
A few weeks ago, I had an amazing dream that I met Paul McCartney. In the dream, his assistant brings him over to where it was pre-arranged that I would meet him. He sat down across a folding table from me and was very friendly. He told me that he would personally sing to me one song from every Beatles album. I was astonished and quickly thought of which songs I would request. I admonished myself that I better make sure I choose songs he wrote and sang and not embarrass myself (and him) by requesting a John Lennon song.
Before I was able to tell him my requests, he said we should sing “Yesterday” together. I’m glad he chose that song because even though I like it, I wouldn’t have requested it since I have heard him sing it in concerts several times. It was like getting a bonus song. Paul brought out his guitar and started playing “Yesterday”. I barely sang because I’m a horrible singer and didn’t want to ruin the song (and the moment). Of course (as what usually happens before the really great part of dreams) I woke up from the dream before I was able to make my 13 song requests and have the ultimate personal concert.
So that dream got me thinking, if I was ever in real life to have the amazing experience I dreamt about, which songs would I choose. Well, here they are in chronological order of album release.
- Love Me Do
- All My Loving
- Things We Said Today
- I’ll Follow the Sun
- I’ve Just Seen a Face
- Paperback Writer
- Here, There and Everywhere
- Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
- Your Mother Should Know
- I Will
- All Together Now
- Maxwell’s Silver Hammer
- Get Back
I tried to pick songs I haven’t heard Paul perform repeatedly in his concerts. It was so hard to choose just one song from my favorite album, “Help!”. I couldn’t imagine what it would be like if this dream actually came true.
Guitar Train passengers, which Paul McCartney songs would you request him to sing to you? Remember, it can only be songs from Beatles albums as Paul stipulated in my dream.
Coming up in future Guitar Train stops, I will be choosing one song from each of my other favorite musicians’ albums which I would like them to play for me.
