Religious Christmas Songs

This December on The Guitar Train, Quirky T presents Christmas songs.  The first stop is religious Christmas songs.  It seems the phrase “religious Christmas songs” should be redundant but unfortunately it isn’t.  More and more Christmas songs are not about the birth of Jesus, instead they are about material things or romantic feelings towards other people.  On another track, I don’t understand why non-Christian singers record religious Christmas songs.  Since they don’t believe in Jesus, what does Christmas mean to them?  Stores are closed?  Less traffic on the streets?  No mail delivery?  A sudden abundance of red and green decorations?

To get back on track, here are my favorite religious Christmas songs.

  1. “Go, Tell It On the Mountain”
  2. “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing”
  3. “Joy to the World”
  4. “O Come, All Ye Faithful”
  5. “Silent Night”

Guitar Train passengers, what are your favorite religious Christmas songs?

Tomorrow, December 6, is the Feast of St. Nicholas.  Quirky T wishes everyone a Happy Feast of St. Nicholas and much soft, fresh pfeffernüsse.
